Congratulations to Paul McCarthy, final year student on the Chemical & Biopharmaceutical Engineering Degree at Cork Institute of Technology, who has been awarded the PM Group Process Design Project Medal for his final year design project.
Paul’s team was assigned the task of designing a process to manufacture 2-methyl THF, a relatively new solvent claimed to be an environmentally preferable substitute for THF. As part of the solution, Paul was responsible for the design of a spray dryer and a sustainability assessment of the process.
The PM Group Process Design Project Medal is awarded annually to a Final Year student of CIT’s Chemical & Biopharmaceutical B.Eng Degree. As part our CSR programme, we are pleased to support CIT through ongoing activities such as design seminars and mentoring for students’ design projects. Peter O Sullivan, PM Group’s Process Group Manager, Cork, is also a sponsor for ongoing support of the Chemical & Biopharmaceutical Engineering Degree Programme which is overseen by Noel Duffy.
